School of Youtou, Casamance, Senegal – April 2022

In Basse-Casamance, an elementary school has been equipped with a Lagazel collective charging station, as well as 50 LK3000 solar lamps, by an association that works in the village of youtou for many years: the association Passerelle pour Youtou. As in many projects, the lamps were reserved in priority for the pupils of CM2, who are in exam class. Here, some of the lamps were also given to middle school students who did not have access to electricity at home. Thanks to this scheme, 100% of the beneficiary students passed their exams, which made the community very proud! In order to perpetuate the project, the community would now like to set up a contribution system, around 1,000 CFA francs per student per year, in order to anticipate the maintenance of the equipment over time.

In Senegal, Lagazel now has its own production lines, thanks to a partnership with the PROMESS training center in Thies. Thus, on this type of projects, it is robust, certified and Made in Senegal solar material which is proposed!

Fatick Region, Senegal – December 2018

In 2018, a solar charging station was installed in a school of the Fatick region, Senegal. Approximately forty solar lamps were distributed to teachers and pupils. Families started paying a small contribution each month. After two years, they will become the owners of their lamp, while their child leaves primary school. Thanks to this project, executed by the Fatick Regional Development Agency and the French NGO Initiative Développement within the framework of a cooperation project with the region of Nouvelle Aquitaine (France), children can now study at home, and general learning conditions have been improved.

Region of Thies, Senegal – November 2020

The French association Bagoudibou funded an operation with solar lamps and collective charging stations for two schools in the region of Thiès, Sénégal. In collaboration with the local NGOs APAF and ADEPE, the project was built including an awareness session per school to insure a proper use of the products by beneficiaries, and a good comprehension of the challenges of solar energy. In total, two collective solar charging stations were installed and 80 Kalo 3000 portable solar lamps were offered to pupils according to insecurity but also academic excellence conditions. For teachers, they are in charge of managing the equipment and inviting parents to get involved in the projects. Within the coming year, the Senegalese Lagazel team will come back for a follow-up visit. And in the meantime, consultations will be held to set up a solar lamps loan system.
