In Mali, another school benefitted from a collective charging stations project in 2021. Thanks to a decentralised cooperation agreement between La Fouillouse, a French town, and Soufouroulaye, a Malian village, two stations were installed within the school, and a total of 80 LK3000 lamps were distributed to the pupils in their last year, who are preparing their final exam. This way, their learning conditions are improved. The equipment was secured in the building, and a teacher is in charge of putting the lamps on load and of distributing them to the children at the end of the day : a way to have a close follow-up and to insure the sustainability of the project. Indeed, lamps will be picked up and kept by the school before summer holidays, and then handed out again to the new pupils in their last year. That is why the equipment must last in time. In the same way, the twinning committee in La Fouillouse (France) organised a technical monitoring visit, which will be carried out by the Lagazel team in Mali in October, just before children go back to school, in order to analyse the situation. Up to now, no particular issue has been detected.

Update: following this first operation in February 2021, the project has expanded! Thanks to the good academic results achieved by the pupils benefiting from the lamps, the association wanted to equip more of them. In 2022, and again in 2023, new stations were installed. In all, 6 stations and 240 solar lamps are now in service in the area!

The post Mopti region, Mali – February 2021 to November 2023 first appeared on Lagazel.

L’article Mopti region, Mali – February 2021 to November 2023 est apparu en premier sur Lagazel.

In 2022, 4 collective charging stations were installed in the principal’s office of a public elementary school with several hundred pupils. 160 LK1500 solar lamps were distributed. In 2023, 2 new stations (with 80 lamps) were added as part of a new replication, in a new school selected by the program.

The beneficiaries are children who do not have access to electricity at home: in return, they are asked to collect their household waste at home, and sort it using the bins set up for this purpose at the school. This waste is then recycled to raise funds for the purchase of additional lamps and maintenance activities. These activities can be carried on site, without delay, thanks to a training course organized for a local team (Moi Jeu Tri and town hall staff), equipped with components and tools to enable them to work independently. The association emphasizes that this new project presents a more accomplished model than its predecessors, with beneficiaries selected on the basis of access to energy rather than school results, or even no selection at all (one lamp for each child)!

The post Togoville (Vo 2), Maritime region, Togo – January 2022 to February 2023 first appeared on Lagazel.

L’article Togoville (Vo 2), Maritime region, Togo – January 2022 to February 2023 est apparu en premier sur Lagazel.

The aim of the “From Waste to Light” project is to improve educational conditions for pupils through access to lighting solutions, while positioning them as players in sustainable development. Conducted by Moi Jeu Tri, which specializes in waste management in Togo, in partnership with Lagazel, this innovative project was inaugurated in the presence of HE Mrs Jocelyne CABALLERO, Ambassador of France, at one of the 10 beneficiary schools in the commune of Aneho (Togo). The project involved the installation of 40 collective charging stations, giving 1,600 pupils access to a solar lamp, as well as bins for sorting household waste. It also raised awareness of sustainable development (renewable energies, household waste management and recovery) among 4,000 pupils. The aim of the project was to ensure that the waste brought back and sorted at school would be recycled and used to finance social projects for the schools: in this case, solar lamps for children living in non-electrified areas. One year on, almost a ton of waste has been collected, and replication in other villages has begun. Work has also been launched to finance an increase in the rate of coverage of pupils with solar lamps in beneficiary schools.

This project was made possible by the financial support of Synergie Solaire, the EDF Foundation, the Watt4Change endowment fund, and for 2022, the 1% for the Planet fund.

The post Primary schools in Aneho – Maritime Region, Togo – January 2021 to January 2022 first appeared on Lagazel.

L’article Primary schools in Aneho – Maritime Region, Togo – January 2021 to January 2022 est apparu en premier sur Lagazel.

The association Burkina Kelegre multiplies projects in Benin thanks to the resale of Lagazel lamps in France!

We have already told you about it: the association Burkina Kelegre, from Bretagne, distributes Lagazel lamps in France, and thus generates revenues that help finance solidarity projects in Benin. Between September 2022 and January 2023, 4 collective charging stations and nearly 500 lamps (both individual lamps and lamps on stations) were made available to three Beninese institutions in different regions.

In each place, the lamps are distributed according to the learning conditions of each student, in relation to the precariousness of his or her situation and the expressed need. All the equipment is managed by a dedicated management committee, which ensures routine maintenance and makes sure that safety conditions are guaranteed. Prior to the beneficiaries taking possession of the lamps, awareness-raising sessions have been organized. Thus, all the conditions are met for the installations to be sustainable!

According to the people in charge on site, the first feedback is very positive: “Everywhere we went, the impressions are good. This project improves the quality of life of the beneficiaries […]. The lamp model designed for the students is very practical, durable and guarantees a long life for the device.”

Lagazel Benin, with its production workshop based in Porto Novo, provides all the solar solutions installed on these projects.

The post Schools and pre-seminaries in Donga, Alibori and Borgou – Benin, September 2022 to January 2023 first appeared on Lagazel.

L’article Schools and pre-seminaries in Donga, Alibori and Borgou – Benin, September 2022 to January 2023 est apparu en premier sur Lagazel.

In Liberia, 2 collective charging stations have been installed at the palava hut, the common house of the village of Kpalo Bli. Each family received 2 Lagazel Kalo 3000 solar lamps to light their house and charge their cell phone. 4 additional lamps are planned to light the palava hut during evening meetings. A person in charge of the follow-up of the lamps has been appointed within the village, and the inhabitants are organizing themselves to set up a kitty in order to be able to pay him and anticipate the replacement of the material. This project was made possible thanks to the work of the association Kedo Liberia and thanks to the financing of the Agency of Micro-Projects and Synergie Solaire.

Several months later, the President of the Kedo Liberia association testifies: “This project has brought a lot to our association Kedo Liberia, by bringing “light” to the village, thanks to a technology that protects the environment. This “light” is also the “mobilization” and “empowerment” of the inhabitants around a new common project, complementary to the other projects of the association (the school and the collective farm). This “light” simply contributes to “enlighten” the future of the villagers and the surrounding villages because the objective of Kedo Liberia is also to make Kpalo-Bli a village with experiences to share with the neighbors of the region”.

Within the beneficiary communities, each family can benefit from two lamps, provided that they pay a contribution of 500 francs (0.24€) per month and per lamp, and get involved in the manufacture of improved stoves. Provided by women’s groups who have been trained in the maintenance of the equipment and financial management, the rental of the lamps by the households makes it possible to finance micro-credits or small projects.

Project in an unknown land! For the first time, the Lagazel stations sailed to Guinea Bissau, and more precisely, to the Bijagos archipelago. 4 villages of these particularly isolated islands benefited from a charging station as well as about 40 lamps. Installed at the school when the locality had one, or at a trusted actor of the community’s house, the equipment was adopted by the inhabitants who shared the lamps between them in good understanding in order to obtain an equitable distribution according to the needs of each one. For each station, a person in charge was appointed within the village. This project was made possible by Free Salsa, a dance company that has been using its profits to carry out humanitarian and development projects for many years. In cooperation with the local NGO Escama for this operation, several representatives of the company were able to go to the site to install the equipment. To transcribe this mission, a very nice video was made (that you can find available only in French here).

8 months after the first mission, the company Free Salsa has launched the second act of the project: two additional charging stations have been delivered to the Bijagos archipelago, and 110 additional LK3000 solar lamps have been distributed among the inhabitants. Each lamp in the community is assigned to a family, whose name is written directly on the lamp to ensure better traceability. The next step would be to succeed in setting up a system of contributions: the sensitization of the beneficiaries is in progress so that an organization can be set up to take charge of future maintenance costs.

With the support of the NGO Experts Solidaires, the Beninese association Esho Ko Iya has implemented a solar lighting project in the town of Glazoué. This initiative goes beyond the school: in addition to the collective charging station and the 40 LK1500 lamps made available to the students, 75 LK1500M lamps were financed for the benefit of widows in precarious situations, pre-identified by the local actors. All of the equipment was distributed free of charge. At rhe school, the lamps are given in priority to students in exam classes, then to those in lower classes who have the best academic results. In order for this operation to continue and be renewed, reflections are underway to identify a viable economic model, with certainly a local repair point to take care of possible breakdowns.

This project was one of the first solidarity projects of Lagazel’s subsidiary in Benin, created in 2021. With its production workshop for solar products (solar lamps, solar home kits, collective recharging solutions, etc.), Lagazel Benin employs about ten people and contributes to improving the rate of access to sustainable energy in the country.

The post Villages in the town of Glazoué, Benin – May 2022 first appeared on Lagazel.

L’article Villages in the town of Glazoué, Benin – May 2022 est apparu en premier sur Lagazel.

This first operation having been a success, and having made a lot of noise in the neighboring localities, the association has decided to replicate it quite quickly. A new station with 40 LK3000 solar lamps has been deployed. The lamps, provided free of charge to children from the poorest families, are recharged regularly under the supervision of the director and a specially formed committee of students.

Here, some of the lamps were also given to middle school students who did not have access to electricity at home. Thanks to this scheme, 100% of the beneficiary students passed their exams, which made the community very proud! In order to perpetuate the project, the community would now like to set up a contribution system, around 1,000 CFA francs per student per year, in order to anticipate the maintenance of the equipment over time.
