In Burundi, 120 Lagazel charging stations and 6000 solar lamps have been deployed thanks to the UNDP (United Nations Development Program) and the Burundian Ministry of Energy, in order to bring light to 6 hills in the communes of Bugarama and Busoni. 50 platforms, each composed of 2 to 3 stations and a hundred lamps, have been installed within dedicated infrastructures. Within the beneficiary communities, each family can benefit from two lamps, provided that they pay a contribution of 500 francs (0.24€) per month and per lamp, and get involved in the manufacture of improved stoves. Provided by women’s groups who have been trained in the maintenance of the equipment and financial management, the rental of the lamps by the households makes it possible to finance micro-credits or small projects.
